‘Tis the season for giving. Some creative firms have designathons to give back to their communities. Some hold designoramas. GO, the international design unit in downtown Lancaster, believes in going the whole hog. On November 27 and 29, GO will host its first ever Design-O-Rama-Thon, a pro bono marathon design session to benefit not-for-profit organizations in Central Pennsylvania.
Any 501(c)3 nonprofit organization in the Central Pennsylvania region is eligible to participate in GO's Design-O-Rama-Thon 2007. All design consultation and work will be provided free of charge. The event is organized into two 12-hour sessions. The first session, the Design-O-Rama half, will be held on Tuesday, Nov. 27, and will last from 9am to 9pm. On this day, area nonprofits can schedule a meeting with GO to discuss their marketing objectives and project ideas. Projects can cover anything design-related but are limited to those that can be completed within a 12-hour timeframe. The real work comes on Thursday, Nov. 29, the Design-A-Thon part, when GO's creative team and other volunteer graphic designers and writers will roll up their sleeves and bunker down at GO headquarters for 12 straight hours of designing. The intervening time between the Design-O-Rama and the Design-A-Thon, Wednesday, will be spent gathering materials, such as logo files, photography, images, and other content, necessary for the designing to begin on Thursday.
“We believe in doing good work,” says Jeronimo Herrera, GO creative director. “And we wanted to do something for those who do good.”
GO, LLC, is a multidisciplinary design unit in downtown Lancaster, PA. The firm has worked locally with the Lancaster Arts Hotel, the AIDS Community Alliance, and L.I.V.E (Lancaster Investment in a Vibrant Economy). Though nothing like Design-O-Rama-Thon has been held in the area recently, similar events take place in other cities around the country. GO is currently looking for sponsors who are willing to donate reduced or pro bono printing services and/or refreshments to keep volunteers perky and percolating with ideas.
