It's probably not the first thing you think of when you picture Lancaster or when you book a room in a hotel. But it's what the Lancaster Arts Hotel seeks to do with every guest that stays under its roof.
We have been fortunate enough to have the Arts Hotel as a client for a few years now. Our collaboration with them began when they came to us with a logo, an empty warehouse under renovation, a love for Lancaster, and a willingness to not only do something different but be different.
Since then, we have developed their corporate identity, done a few radio ads, and written and produced an award-winning television commercial. Working with Mara, Alaina, Darcy, and the team at the Hotel to build their brand from scratch has been a wonderful experience, so wonderful that we were compelled to name them GO's Client of the Year in 2007. We're always mindful that many young small town designers never get an opportunity to work with such great clients. In fact, we're reminded of how good we have it whenever a young designer comes to our office with a portfolio full of ads and direct mail pieces and asks us how we get to work with such great clients.
We like to hem and haw about doing good work and having good ideas and staying true to yourself but honestly sometimes it all comes down to luck. Sure, you have to work hard and you have to work on developing a mutually respectful and trusting relationship with your client, but let's be real. It's a lot easier to do good work that stays true to who you are as a graphic designer when your client knows what they stand for and stays true to what they believe.
So stay at the Lancaster Arts Hotel and be inspired.
