Ridiculous Innovation No. 067 - The Third Ply

I am all for innovation. I yell it at my future potential unborn children every morning so they will not forget when they are born. "Innovate!" I tell them. Sometimes I like to mix it up with a good "Always bet on black!" You know, just to keep them on their toes.

But some innovations are just ridiculous. Not the good kind of ridiculous that borders on ri-DONK-ulous. The bad kind. The kind that invites ridicule. Like such:

Taking the Bull By the Horns

It's a strange, strange world we live in. What gets me, other than an apparently docile bull roaming the streets of Queens, is that a) there was another bull running loose almost exactly a year earlier and b) the NYPD have a lasso ready for just such occasions.

Z is for Zoo

A little known fact about Jeronimo is that he likes zoos. Not to be confused with the little known fact that Jeronimo learned English by watching Baywatch (he watched it for the articles).

Question of the Day

Why do big burly beer-gutted painters always tune their radios to easy listening / lite rock stations while working?

If I have to listen to ABBA's "Dancing Queen" one more time....

In Russia, Fisherman Eats You

I'm generally in favor of mash ups, i.e. creating something new and exciting out of something that already exists. Strike that - I'm in favor of mash ups that are done well. I'm in favor of anything done well. Like an articulate gay man once said, "Make it work." If you go out on a limb and you can make it work, you're a hero. If not, the stench of ignominy will follow you everywhere like cheap aftershave. This I am not quite sure how to categorize, but I do know that I can't stop watching no matter how much I really want to. (It gets really good at 0:23.)

Circle of Life

Apparently the last time I had a Mother's Day-related project, I didn't save any of my research or brainstorming ideas. Because, of course, Mother's Day isn't a recurring holiday that comes up every May.

So this year, I found this article on Mother Nature's maternal instincts. At first I thought, yeah, that's not cool but I get it. Circle of life, survival of the fittest, right? Then I kept reading. The kangaroo thing is cold. And then we got to the chimps, who "never abandon or reject their young, no matter how diseased or crippled a baby may be". Heartwarming, no? Makes you feel better about the primate family. Of course, the operative phrase here is "their young". Another ape's young is fair game and apparently "a good way to get lipids". And it gets better. You should read about the sharks and the ants.

Erm. Hullo.

We're still detoxing from Design-O-Rama-Thon, which has turned into the loooooooongest 12-hour marathon. Ever. (And I promise I will never use that word again. Ever. Except for just now.) We are slowly but surely wrapping things up - if you are one of the nonprofits patiently awaiting your amazing results, wearegettingtherethanksforyourpatience! It's fairly hard to detox in the middle of the holiday rush and what with our favorite pastime being on hiatus (settle up already production fools!), well, what's a Unit to do?

Three words of Oswald Montecristo crispyness that will tingle that holiday jingle: Bloody. Extreme. Knitting.

Totally Awesome.
