The dust has just about settled on our biggest DORT ever. Many thanks to everyone for donating their creativity or inspiration!
Thank you to those kind enough to donate yummy baked goods, sandwiches, and a lil' liquid inspiration:
And many, many thanks to those who gave up their Saturdays and braved a snowstorm to give good design to those who do good! Our volunteers (in no particular order):

I'll admit it - I totally drive like an old Asian lady. Mainly because I am an old (relatively) Asian lady. Also, because I get there when I get there....I just don't particularly feel like I need to get there at the speed of light. I just need to get there at a reasonable 5-10mph over the speed limit.
I'd like to think I'm a patient driver. I let other people into the lane and I give cyclists plenty of room. Unless you're being a jackass and you're doing something stupid like gawking at Amish laundry on the side of the road and going 20mph on a 55 mph state highway. In that case, you deserve a honk.

Roughly 4 weeks from now, on Saturday, December 5, Lancaster's bestest designers, writers, and other creatives will gather together here at the headquarters of Lancaster's premier international design unit and ideatorium for a marathon mashup of creativity and collaboration (and maybe a little coffee).
Come hang with us as we battle the clock and possibly carpal tunnel on behalf of Central Pennsylvania non-profit organizations! Design-O-Rama-Thon is our way of giving thanks to our community and gives us an excuse to hang out with our friends, associates, and frenemies and all work together to bring good design to those who may not normally be able to afford our services (but often need it the most). Plus, it's an excuse to party, as our landlord says.

At last Friday's Boo's and Brews, Mathew Samuel was kind enough to bring some mug designs he's been working on. He uses some kind of marker that lets him draw straight onto the mug and bake the design on. Pretty awesome. Which took me back to Mug-O-Rama-Thon, which Mathew won last year.
And Mug-O-Rama-Thon means Design-O-Rama-Thon, which is coming up soon! Get ready to give good design to those who do good!

Hello Interwebs! We're a bit swamped here at Unit HQ at the moment - Nick's got a couple websites, J's wrapped up in packaging, and I'm throwing words onto a blank page and hoping that they end up in some kind of coherent order. Which means all my words are used up at the moment and I don't have many to spare for much blogging this week. Here's a quick preview of some things we're working on. Feedback is appreciated.

Yes, we're keeping it in the family this week. For those of you not in the know, Proto is our sister company, the responsible twin sibling who handles all client services and takes out the trash, the brawn to our brain, the number cruncher to our cloud castle builder, the proletariat to our bourgeoisie and so on and so forth. Or as the Germans say, und so weiter. (See Herr Miller, I was paying attention.)
Because good business needs good design.

In celebration of GO's fifth anniversary, we've refreshed the design of the site. Let's take one last look at the design that served us faithfully for the last 2.5 years

I have a rule against comic book movies. And trilogies. And especially comic book trilogies.
It's not that I don't like comic books, because I have been known to pick up the occasional graphic novel. It's just that, to use the technical term, those movies suck a mighty megatron.
Allow me to enumerate the many, many reasons they suck a mighty megatron:

The Unit has officially joined the Tweet nation. Follow our exploits and the minutiae of office life here at GO LLC HQ on Twitter. Here is a preview of upcoming updates:

Why Does "Historic" Always Mean "Drafty"? In our ongoing saga to stay warm in our expansive yet expensive to heat office, we recently bought ceramic space heaters. If you've ever dropped by GO HQ, you'll know that we huddle in the farthest corner of our office, by the windows (the drafty, drafty windows), so it just makes economical sense to drop the overall temp and concentrate on heating the tiny bit of floor space we mainly use. Although it would probably make more sense to move away from the windows and back toward where the office is warmer, but that's another battle for another day. The space heaters have been working out great, especially since they came with remote controls, thus combining my love for being warm with my love for not getting up off my ass.
Last week we were fortunate enough to hook back up with a former client on a rush job, so while we're grateful for the opportunity, we're also trying to regroup a bit. In lieu of an actual blog post, here is a post about other people's blog posts.

So much has changed yet so much has stayed the same since last we blogged, Interwebs. We are now post-racial, if you hadn't noticed, but still not post-economic crapfest. There is a tall, articulate skinny guy from Illinois now leading the nation, and we have a good history with tall, articulate skinny guys from Illinois, so I feel pretty hopeful. This stat is pretty impressive:
"According to ABC News, by 5 p.m. police officials had made zero arrests in Washington, D.C., related to the Inauguration. When's the last time about 2 million people gathered in one place and nobody got out of hand to warrant intervention by law enforcement?"

Do you smell it? Do you? It's the smell of 3 Boxes O' Joe and my second cup of the day. And all that can only mean one thing - our Second Annual Design-O-Rama-Thon, presented by our graphic design studio, Proto! As is my annual tradition, I am live-blogging today's event. So here we go.....

Hello interwebs! We are currently accepting applications from Central Pennsylvania area not-for-profits for Design-O-Rama-Thon 08, Idea 002 from the new, improved GO LLC, an imaginarium and Progress Administration. DORT is currently being hosted by Proto, Idea 001 from the international design unit known as GO. (More on that in another blog entry.)

Proto is hosting the second annual Design-O-Rama-Thon on Saturday, December 6, at its headquarters in downtown Lancaster, PA. The event is a marathon mash-up of graphic design and do-goodery where local designers donate their time and creative skills to area not-for-profits. Proto is currently seeking volunteers for the day of the event and accepting applications for Design-O-Rama-Thon projects from local 501(c)3's.

We value curiosity here at the imaginarium and international design unit known as GO LLC. As such, we are currently collecting questions. The good kind, not the bad kind like when you're Asian and people always ask you, "Where are you from?" and any answer that lies west of Nepal is the wrong answer, even if you spent the vast majority of your life in Pennsylvania Dutch country. That is a bad question. If you have any good questions, send them to us!

It's an election year, as you may have gathered from the past 18 months of nonstop campaigning, debating, rallying, and punditry. It's just like the Olympics, but without the slow motion instant replay.

I suppose that's what we're calling it now. I didn't know that until I checked some Dutch guy's blog this morning.
On the first anniversary of 9/11, I marched with the red and khaki in a silent parade that wound its way through Center City, Philadelphia. I couldn't see the beginning of the parade or the end of it, but I was surrounded by 175 other people, people in their late teens and early twenties whose shrill rambunctiousness could normally puncture a sensory deprivation chamber, who remained quiet for the 2 or 3 miles we walked that day.

"You're wearing a tie?"
"Yeah. I'm going business casual."
"Do jeans and a t-shirt count as business casual?" I shouted over my shoulder as I went to examine my closet.
"We'll be at a reading with leading designers later - business casual!" my brother said as he went to iron his tie.
"Have you met me?" I called back.

And if anyone should know about that which bucks, it's Ron Lu. Last night, members of the Unit made an appearance at the Creative House of Lancaster's Pecha Kucha night to wow the audience with their verbal wizardry. We dropped it like it was hot. Because it was hot.

Welcome to Summer, interwebs! It's hot. It's humid. It's multiple thunderstorms and a waterfall in our HVAC closet. Summer is putting the car in cruise and living easy. Summer is also catching up on the blogging.
So here is what has happened at the GO, LLC, Lancaster's premier idea farm, since my last weblog entry:

Hello, Interwebs! We are coming to you live from the one and only Inaugural Marathon Mash Up of Design and Do-Goodery"!
I thought I may try to live blog our day and let all you cybertribes know what's going on here at GO Headquarters. I had planned on starting from the very beginning of the day, but apparently I only move at quarter-speed on four hours of sleep, so it's taken me this long (11ish) to get rolling. That and my typing rate is slowed significantly by the sleep-deprived/caffeine-boosted jitters I've got going on. But let's move on to the main event....

The clock is ticking away! Well, it would be ticking if we had splurged on that huge beast of a chronograph when we went to IKEA. At any rate, the seconds are slipping away and we are in serious training. We've been practicing the whole sleeve rolling up (buttoned and unbuttoned, thick sleeves, thin sleeves, layered sleeves, etc) thing and while there have been a few injuries (who knew about repetitive stress?), we think we've got it down. Today we've got some prep work to do, a little housekeeping (ok, a lot), and some crazy carb loading.
Stress Level: Yellow (Elevated) - Accelerated speech patterns, obsessive to-do listmaking, increased caffeine consumption.

Welcome to the Latest Feature of this Wonderful Design-ish* Blog. We believe mightily in asking questions and seeking answers here at GO, LLC, Lancaster's premier international design unit. We also believe that we'll never know all the answers but that shouldn't stop us from living the questions. So ponder these two issues: (1) Can Martha Stewart still vote? and (2) To party or not to party?.
