When is imitation a form of flattery and when is it infringing on your intellectual property?

I got a message last night that there was a....similarity...between a blog I recently wrote (for one of the brands we're managing) and the latest blog of another local business. And before I made any decision on whether to funk some wagnalls, I clicked on the link and read the blog entry in question.

Ridiculous Innovation No. 067 - The Third Ply

I am all for innovation. I yell it at my future potential unborn children every morning so they will not forget when they are born. "Innovate!" I tell them. Sometimes I like to mix it up with a good "Always bet on black!" You know, just to keep them on their toes.

But some innovations are just ridiculous. Not the good kind of ridiculous that borders on ri-DONK-ulous. The bad kind. The kind that invites ridicule. Like such:

I'll admit it - I totally drive like an old Asian lady. Mainly because I am an old (relatively) Asian lady. Also, because I get there when I get there....I just don't particularly feel like I need to get there at the speed of light. I just need to get there at a reasonable 5-10mph over the speed limit.

I'd like to think I'm a patient driver. I let other people into the lane and I give cyclists plenty of room. Unless you're being a jackass and you're doing something stupid like gawking at Amish laundry on the side of the road and going 20mph on a 55 mph state highway. In that case, you deserve a honk.
